Core Co-Leaders: Richard Schulz, Ph.D., and Joel Greenhouse, Ph.D
Staff: Bozena Zdaniuk, Ph.D., and Anna Aivaliotis

The major functions of this core are to provide consultation on data management for Center supported pilot study investigators and statistical consultation to Center affiliated investigators. Our goal is to assure standardized and high quality data across all pilot studies and to promote the application of appropriate analytic methods in examining psychobiological processes.  The core also sponsors selected workshops on new data collection and analytic methods.

Data Management Support
Consultation and support is available on
the design of data collection forms,
the development of a Manual of Operations and Procedures for pilot studies,
the implementation of quality control procedures for data collection,
the development of micro-computer based data entry systems, and
ensuring of security and participant confidentiality for all data collected.
. Limited consultation is available without cost to investigators affiliated with PMBC.
Contact Person: Bozena Zdaniuk, Ph.D.
Data management support services can also be purchased through the
University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR).
Contact Person: Bozena Zdaniuk, Ph.D. or Scott Beach, Ph.D.

Statistical Consultation and Analytic Support
Consultation and support is available on design and methodological issues for investigating and
analytically decomposing (unpacking) components of the Pittsburgh Mind-Body Center model.
Support is available for the design phase of a study in order to assure that designs
(and measurements) are efficient and optimal in the sense of taking full advantage of opportunities
to investigate components of the PMBC model. At the analysis stage, relevant statistical support is
available and includes a broad range of methods such as generalized linear models and regression
models for time-to-event data to help facilitate the investigation of associations and pathways
specified in the PMBC model.  Consultation is also available on various approaches for analysis
of moderator and mediator effects currently being discussed in the literature, assessing the
relevance of various approaches to the data, and issues of model specification, including
underlying model assumptions, and goodness-of-fit.
Limited consultation on statistical issues is available without cost to investigators
affiliated with PMBC. Contact Person: Bozena Zdaniuk, Ph.D.

Training and Advanced Methods Workshops
On a periodic basis, Core B offers workshops on basic and advanced data management and
analysis issues. Presentation materials will be posted and can be accessed through this website.
Scheduled workshops include the following:
