"The Effects of Sleep Loss on Inflammation and Host Protection in Healthy Volunteers"

Janet Mullington, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Mullington's lecture will highlight findings from human studies investigating the effects of sleep and sleep loss on inflammatory mediators.  Factors likely to be involved in the inflammatory vulnerability to sleep loss will be discussed.  In addition, she will present results from a recent study on the effects of chronic sleep restriction on human host responses to a bacterial challenge.  Dr. Mullington will address issues of the involvement of sleep in host protection and the responsiveness of sleep to immune challenge.
