Research Program
Dr. Helgeson's work is focused on how people adjust to chronic illness, such as heart
disease, cancer, and diabetes.  She studies the extent to which traits that are socialized
in men and women pose hazards for health.  In general, she studies the influence of both
personal and social resources on psychological and physical health outcomes.
