Research Program
Dr. Kalarchian is a clinical psychologist whose work involves the adaptation, delivery, and
evaluation of obesity treatments for special populations, with a particular interest in the
relationship between psychiatric status and health-related behavior.  Currently, she is working
toward the development of an intervention to promote healthy eating, increased physical
activity, and enhanced psychosocial functioning tailored to meet the unique needs of severely
obese individuals undergoing surgery for weight loss.  She has also been involved in studies on
family-based treatment of severe pediatric obesity and behavioral treatment of obesity in patients
taking antipsychotic mediations.
