PMBC's mission is to understand common pathways -- psychological, behavioral,
and psychobiological -- that connect environmental factors with the onset of and
recovery from diverse physical illnesses. This principle model underlies the
research and training  conducted through PMBC.

PMBC researchers are conducting projects focused on four distinct diseases.
Each project is working toward a better understanding of how the mind influences
the development of and recovery from a particular disease. Two of the studies are
designed to serve as interventions and the other two are oriented toward examining
risks for disease.

The four diseases being examined include susceptibility to -
Respiratory Illness
Osteoarthritis
Subclinical Cardiovascular Disease
Breast Cancer
