As
of July 1, 2008, PMBC will be suspending award of pilot funds.
While available, this infrastructure
component offered consultation and pilot monies to address
research questions relevant
to the overall PMBC model that were novel, but sufficiently preliminary
that they were not yet ready
for NIH support. The purpose of the innovative pilot research component
was to encourage new research
that allowed the Center to achieve its overall aims:
a)
the identification of the most important common pathways across diverse
diseases;
b)
understanding key components of the pathways in light of the life course
of the
individual
and disease pathophysiology;
c)
developing a range of recommended, sometimes new assessment tools for measuring
the
common pathways;
d)
providing a theoretical and empirical foundation for efficacious interventions
on
pathways;
and -
e)
training the next generation of leaders in mind-body science through provision
of
“start-up” funds.
